Lions Bay area parking & access notes
- Steep driveways: Lions Bay and the hillside above Horseshoe Bay have very steep driveways. We’ll find the flattest spot or work at the street curb safely with cones.
- Snow at elevation: Lions Bay sees more snow than the rest of the North Shore. Winters by October 1 is a smart rule up here.
- Ferry traffic: Friday afternoons through Sunday evenings in summer, ferry traffic backs up onto the highway. Plan your Lions Bay appointments outside those windows.
- Sea-to-Sky commuters: If you commute up the Sea-to-Sky daily for work, we strongly recommend a free tire health check every 2-3 months — those kilometres add up fast.
Frequently asked questions
Do you really come out to Lions Bay?
Yes, and there is no extra travel charge. Lions Bay is part of our regular service area — that is rather the point, given the nearest tire shop is a 30 minute drive each way down the highway.
Do I legally need winter tires on the Sea-to-Sky?
Yes. On Highway 99 through the Sea-to-Sky corridor, winter tires or chains are required from 1 October to 31 March. Your tires need to carry either the M+S marking or the three-peak mountain snowflake symbol, with at least 3.5 mm of tread. The three-peak rating is the stronger of the two and what we would recommend for that stretch of road.
How much is a seasonal tire swap?
If your tires are already on their own rims, $120 plus tax and it takes about half an hour. If they need to come off the rims and be mounted and balanced, $180 plus tax and closer to two hours.
Do I need to be home when you come?
No. We need the vehicle accessible and your tires reachable, and that is about it. Most people are at work.
How much notice should I give you?
A day or two helps. We are not in Lions Bay every day, so booking ahead means we can pair your job with others in the corridor rather than making a special trip.
